Uri
Name: Uri
Gender: Female
Species: Human; Void Elemental
Age: Presumed 10 Years
Appearance:
Abilities:
Weaknesses:
Backstory: Uri was born to an innkeeper mother named Raven and a lazy, no-good father. When her father discovered that she was female, he tried to disown her because he wanted a son. Her mother, refusing to tolerate his sexism anymore—especially toward her daughter—kicked him out of the house and went on to grow her business immensely, renting out large and beautiful spaces to travelling people who wanted to host grand parties. She was going to raise her daughter to be an intelligent, powerful, and upstanding young woman.
But the gods had deemed that it wouldn’t be.
~
There soon arrived a handsome young mage by the name of Derek, who had visited the inn and had seen not only Raven’s beautiful mind but her magnificent heart. Raven swept him off his feet, and while they courted each other, he won Uri over, charming her with his wit and good manners. He attended every tea party, fought in every sword battle (Uri always emerged victorious) and made time to listen to Uri’s complaints when Raven was busy with the inn. They were happy, for a time—Raven’s business was prospering and there was another baby on the way. Uri had found a group of friends that she enjoyed playing with and recently stood up to the mean bully who had been tormenting her for the duration of her early school years. She had twice married her best friend Ariella in the back courtyard of her mother’s inn; either Raven or Derek officiated the wedding on each occasion.
It was a cold evening when the thing that ruined Uri’s life attacked. A dark fog had descended over the town and Uri had been called back inside earlier than usual. She’d complained and whined and begged, for her friends were still allowed to play outside so why shouldn’t she? Uri screamed at her mother and Derek, proclaiming that she hated them and would never talk to them again, storming up to her room.
~
Uri woke up to a silence so deafening her ears ached. Rubbing her ears, she slid out of bed and crept toward her parents’ room--
Only to find a snarling beast glaring at her, cyan eyes ablaze.
Uri froze. What was she supposed to do in this situation? She tried to recall her mother’s training and raised her arms up, palms outstretched, to try to summon a shield in front of her. She looked up and found Raven standing right before her, her face contorted in confusion. “Uri? Uri, what’s going—oh my gods!”
Instantly, Raven sprung into action, summoning a sword comprised of lightning and yelling at Uri to run, to escape, but Uri was too frightened. Eventually, Derek joined the fray, shooting bolts of fire into it. But it was to no avail, for the beast was too strong. It snarled and lunged, swiping at the pair with its massive forepaws.
The fight, it seemed, was coming to an end—with Uri’s parents on the losing end. Uri saw both of them look at each other and realize it, the golden threads connecting them sharing one last thought: Protect our daughter.
If they were still alive, Derek would say that he had a basic understanding of how summoning or sending back elementals worked and Raven would say she had almost none. Their love for each other and for Uri fueled their power and they willed the void elemental to go back to where it came from, to leave them alone.
Uri saw her parents fading into nothing. What was going on? Weren’t they winning? “Mommy? Daddy?” she yelled, tears pooling in the corner of her eyes. “Don’t go! I promise I’ll be good! I’ll do all my chores, I’ll come inside when you want me to . . .” Her voice faded into choked sobs. “P-please d-don’t g-go.” She ran for her parents, reached out with desperation, and grabbed their cloaks with no small amount of relief. They couldn’t leave if she held them as tight as she could.
Right?
~
Just as they had enough magic between them and launched it at the void elemental, Uri had grabbed their cloaks, distracting them for a millisecond. It was a short period of time, but it was enough to distract them from the void elemental, which had leapt at Uri. Just as Raven and Derek’s magic hit it, the elemental clamped down on Uri’s elbow, and the magic hit both full-on.
~
When Uri awoke, she was alone. The ritual had killed her parents and had bound her to the elemental—not that she knew. After the events of that night, she was sent to live with her aunt, growing more and more irritable and violent as she stayed. Her friends left her, for their parents did not want her volatile nature to influence their children.
Rumors circulated about what had happened to Raven and Derek, becoming more and more outlandish as time passed. Uri believed that they were still out there, but everyone else did not. People whispered and blatantly stared while Uri passed them in the streets, noticing that an inky black smoke seemed to bleed from her skin and her eyes seemed to glow cyan at times when she was angriest. This continued until Uri’s tenth birthday, upon which she knew that she couldn’t take this anymore and ran away to find her parents.
She has been looking for them ever since.
Gender: Female
Species: Human; Void Elemental
Age: Presumed 10 Years
Appearance:
- Basic Appearance: Uri's short hair floats above her head like smoke, opaque in all lighting. The strands weave around each other like snakes intertwining as they battle. Her face is so pale and her body so thin that one would think she is about to keel over and die of starvation. Dark circles under her eyes cause her to appear haunted and her face to look sunken and hollow. Her eyes, too jaded and wise to belong to someone so young, appear jet black at a quick glance; but to those who have looked into them speak of a strange allure in their black depths - that they almost move like a wraith comprised of vapor.
- Outfit Preferences: Uri hates wearing dresses, simply for pragmatic reasons: They are clunky, inefficient, and difficult to maneuver in. She prefers to wear more practical outfits, breeches and shirts being her go-to outfit. When she’s feeling cold, she will wear a vest above it - again for practical reasons. Her preferred colors are black and cyan. She’s able to wear such rare colors as her mother is more financially independent than most.
- Appearance While Completely Merged With Void Elemental: N/A as of yet.
Abilities:
- I Have Achieved . . . My Middle Form?: When Uri willingly merges with her void elemental, she and it work in tandem to destroy any assailant that they might face. However, they still fight over whether to incapacitate or kill their opponent—the elemental wants to kill; Uri wants to incapacitate. Since they’re somewhat allies at this point, Uri is significantly more powerful than normal. She can do things such as summon discs of void energy to throw at her opponents, create a fog of void energy to confuse, stun, and eventually incapacitate her opponents, and subtly manipulate others to have more chaotic tendencies.
- Hey Look Ma, I Made It!: Uri has been trained in the art of magic by her mother and thus has a basic understanding of how reiatsu works. She can efficiently summon rudimentary shields, throwing daggers, and swords and fairly defend herself against an average opponent; however, she lacks a broader grasp of more complex spells.
Weaknesses:
- I’m TiredTM: Uri and the void elemental are constantly at war, for if she were to let it run rampant in the realms, she knows that it would wreak havoc everywhere it went - it is the cause of her constant exhaustion, the dark circles under her eyes, the fact that she practically faints every time she finds a bed. There is no way that she would willingly allow the deaths of innocent people. There are times, however - and they are becoming alarmingly more frequent - when Uri has no more energy to hold the elemental back from its base instincts.
- Totally Not A Mary Sue: Uri is by no means perfect; she is to fragile to fight off larger opponents in hand to hand combat, her understanding of magic is basic to almost none, and she does not understand many things about the workings of the world. She is traumatized by the loss of her mother and stepfather and has serious issues when it comes to socializing because of both that and the void elemental that she is constantly locked in battle with.
